Health Information Technology

Health information technology (HIT) holds the promise of improving the quality and safety of patient care by giving practitioners instant access to patients’ medical records and to evidence-based clinical decision support tools. HIT also has the potential to increase system efficiency by facilitating early intervention in disease processes, reducing medical errors, and allowing more rapid assessment of new technologies. IHP’s work seeks to improve policymakers’ understanding of how HIT improves care from both an analytic perspective and by examining Kaiser Permanente’s own hands-on experience.
