As the Communications Manager, I provide communications consultation, planning, implementation and recommended solutions for Institute for Health Policy programs and projects to meet organizational brand and reputation goals.
My previous work helped to support the implementation of federal dietary guidelines, school nutrition standards and local wellness policies.
Health care trends I’m watching
I’m keeping my eye on the shift from “sick care” to preventative care, and particularly how policies and incentives can promote that shift in health care delivery systems. I’m also watching how technological advances are shaping the health care landscape and augmenting patient/provider relationships.
Through my work as a health communicator, I have led and contributed to multi-channel communications campaigns that advance health-promoting policies for all people, especially those in underserved communities. I have authored or contributed to hundreds of articles, success stories, op-eds, and letters to the editor highlighting this work and have been published in the New York Times, the Huffington Post, USA Today and more.
I have also been nominated for a number of commendations and/or leadership positions as a result of my work, including:
- 2010: I was awarded the Ellen H. Block Scholarship from the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University. The purpose of this award is to recruit and retain the highest quality students with career goals of combating critical health and nutrition issues in the United States.
- 2013: Tufts University faculty selected me for induction into the Delta Omega Honorary Society in Public Health, which encourages and recognizes excellence in practice, research, education and academic achievement in the field of public health.
- 2015: I was nominated to join the Alumni Executive Council for the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University. I have served on the Programs and Mentorship committees, helping to improve the experience of both current students and alumni.
- 2017: I was nominated to chair the Communications Division for the Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior.
Interests and experience
I enjoy working at the intersection of policy and communications, helping to demystify complex policy concepts to inform and enable individuals to act in their best interests.
Over the past decade, I have served in a variety of communication roles for health-promoting organizations and companies, honing my skills in digital and social media, campaign planning and implementation, content strategy, media relations, and writing for various formats. I have experience working in the academic, government, business and non-profit sectors.
What drives me in health policy
From our first breath to our last, every person requires health care services; its one of the universal threads that tie us together. I can’t imagine a greater opportunity to improve people’s lives than to shape the policy and practices that determine how they receive that care.
